Concretos Lacosa and Cementos Moctezuma boost creativity with this type of initiatives and support the consciousness-raising regarding care for the environment.
After a broad convocation and creating a great interest among Mexican plastic artists, architects, engineers and students, in the event carried out as of April 17 at the Vive Cuervo Salon (formerly Salón 21), it was presented the winning sculpture of Concretarte, the Moctezuma Sculpture Contest, in it’s first edition.
Surrounded by an atmosphere filled with art, fine music and in presence of the jury members of the contest, as well of executives and clients of Concretos Lacosa, Pedro Carranza Andresen and Miguel Esparza Díaz revealed the three winners of the contest Concretarte.
The first place was granted to the the piece of work ‘Ausencia’ [Absence], created by Ana Lucía Gómez de Valle and Miguel Ángel Morales Sáenz. The winning artists will have over the next months the opportunity to build in monumental size and permanently install their piece of work at the intersection of Avenida de las Palmas and Periférico, in Mexico City.
The space where the winning piece of work will be placed is given by the ‘Delegación Miguel Hidalgo’ [Miguel Hidalgo District Offices] and the Sectional Committee of the area. In addition, the winners received a prize in cash of 25 thousand Mexican pesos.
The second place was for the piece of work ‘Puercoespín’ [hedgehog] created by María José Báez Báez and Jesús Salcedo Villanueva, students at the Centro de Diseño, Cine y Televisión [Center of Design, Cinema and Television] and the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM), respectively, and who received a prize in cash in the amount of 20 thousand Mexican pesos.
Finally, the third place of the contest was for ‘Bandas Habitables’ [Livable-in Bands], work by Iván Hernández Quintela and Norma Maldonado, who received 15 thousand Mexican pesos.
Pedro Carranza Andresen, director to Concretos Lacosa and Concretos Moctezuma, stated on behalf of the company his contentment and pride for the results of Concretarte in its first edition. He emphasized the extraordinary selection made by the members of the jury.
“Ausencia is a piece of work that transmits the urgent importance and need of paying regard to the environment and of preserving equilibrium between the human being and its natural setting. This work will help, in addition to dress up the area, to make us more conscious every day about the thoughtful attention our environment deserves,” said the executive at the prize awarding event.
The jury of Concretarte was made up by artistic and construction personalities, a multidisciplinary group in which the following persons participated:
Mr. Jorge Arditi, architect, partner and director of the dispatch Arditi Arquitectos
Ms. Ana Lorenia García, professor and Culture director of Delegación Miguel Hidalgo
Mr. Tomás Gondi, professor, art critic, plastic artist and art promoter in Mexico.
Mr. Waldo Higuera, engineer, founder of dispatch H+S Higuera y Sánchez
Mr. Gabriel Ponzanelli, professor, expert and renowned sculptor.
